Circle time: Story ‘Ten Seeds’ by Ruth Brown. The Maltese speaking children were exposed to a story in English. To understand the story better, I read the story another time and encouraged the children to use the props such as tray with compost, dry beans to represent the seeds, flower and bee. The exercise fostered mathematical concepts learning as they counted backwards until one seed was left.
Music: Action song — Buzzy Lizzy. This song complemented the circle time activity. The children were again exposed to the second language through a song and they were encouraged to make movements pretending to be a bee. When they used the musical instruments while singing the song a second time, they could recognize and imitate slow and fast tempo. The instruments motivated them to repeat the song several times.
