When the children planted the beans, they were able to explore that plants need water, sun and air to grow.  The 4 pots which were labelled no water, no light, sand and fridge did not produce any plants.  The carnations that were in either yellow or blue coloured water changed colour as depicted in the two drawings 'before' and 'after'.  However, after two weeks the other 2 carnations in green coloured water did not change colour and withered.  Through these activities, the children were able to make predictions and observations.  Drawing from observation and noticing changes in appearance encouraged the children to extend their knowledge and understanding of the world.
